AI Agents: Anthropic Launches Claude Duet for Professional Workflows
The new application targets small businesses and professionals with task automation features, distinguishing itself from personal consumer assistants.

The artificial intelligence landscape is currently saturated with new productivity tools, as developers release a new assistant every week. Into this crowded market steps Anthropic, which has officially unveiled Claude Duet, a new application designed to capture user attention by competing directly with established players like Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo.
Anthropic positions the new agent specifically for professionals and small businesses, focusing on the automation and management of complex tasks. The company draws a clear line between Duet and personal agents like Instinct, noting that Duet is not designed for handling personal errands or booking tickets. Furthermore, the application does not provide a live view of its browser usage, distinguishing its operational style from some of its rivals.
Instead of simple chat interactions, Duet focuses on proactive utility. It can construct daily briefings for users, generate custom dashboards, and suggest specific actions based on existing user data. The agent operates in the background using its own virtual machine to complete tasks, allowing users to focus on other work. It will only interrupt the user if it requires approval to proceed with a specific step.
This launch coincides with a broader industry shift from basic AI assistants to autonomous agents that work on behalf of users. Many of Anthropic’s competitors are increasingly prioritizing business use cases. While Meta’s Muse remains a personal assistant, the company has also released a version tailored for small businesses with integrations for other apps. Similarly, OpenAI’s Dots leans toward professional workflows through its integration with various business tools.
Anthropic emphasizes that Duet proactively delivers recommendations while monitoring ongoing tasks. The software is built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model, providing a robust foundation for its operations. To enhance its utility, Duet can connect to more than 6,000 connectors and plug-ins available in the Claude Marketplace, allowing for extensive integration with existing software ecosystems.
Financial transactions are a key feature of the new agent. Duet can make online purchases on behalf of users by utilizing Stripe’s Link digital wallet or Shopify’s Shop Pay. However, the company stresses that sensitive steps, particularly those involving payments, will always require explicit user approval. To maintain clear boundaries, the agent is not designed to trade securities or transfer money between different bank accounts.
Security measures have been implemented to protect user data. Anthropic released a new classifier that checks every message to prevent the leakage of sensitive information. By default, the agent is programmed to turn down requests that ask for credit card numbers or government identification, adding an extra layer of privacy protection for its users.
Claude Duet is currently available as an application for iOS and Android devices. It is also accessible via the web through Claude.ai, specifically for Pro and Max customers. The tool is currently in a research preview phase, meaning it is not yet fully open to the public.
For those interested in trying the new tool, access is controlled through a waitlist. Users must sign up to join the queue before they can begin using the agent for their professional workflows. As the market continues to evolve, this release marks a significant move by Anthropic to solidify its position in the enterprise and small business sectors.
